Visual axis

Did you know that pupillary axis-based lens centering systems are unreliable?

What is the visual axis?

The visual axis is the straight line joining the fixation object and the foveola, passing through the center of ocular rotation and the nodal points.

On the visual axis, chromatic aberration is minimal.

It represents the actual path of light through the eye and is the ideal candidate to use as a reference for lens centering and ophthalmic treatments.

Its exact measurement requires the patient's collaboration, but thanks to the ergofocus system its localization is simple.

But... Why is it so important to measure the position of the visual axis?

The centering of ophthalmic lenses, taking the visual axis as a reference, is much more accurate than systems based on the pupillary axis. Especially when combined with the measurement of the ocular center of rotation.

With the
Ergofocus System
system at
Lentitech’s Ergofocus System
we can measure
the visual axis
at distance and near (monocularly and binocularly) to design lenses with accurate and customized INSET.

Precise centering and customization of designs results in the highest quality of vision, leading to more satisfied customers.

Lentitech has developed ErgoFOCUS System to accurately measure visual axis (far and near) + INSET
