Did you know that current progressive spectacle centering systems are unreliable?
It is quite possible that over the last few years you have tried different methods and instruments to measure the centers of progressive glasses and the result has always been the same… “Unreliable”.
It is also likely that the ophthalmic lens lab raised your expectations very high, telling you about the enormous virtues of their system that made it superior to others and how it would help you generate better sales.
The harsh reality is that after spending some time using one of these “latest generation centrifuges” you have realized that they are unreliable and that you are now a prisoner of a commercial commitment with the laboratory that has “loaned” it to you at the price of gold.
This whole process causes frustration and distrust. This is normal.
But... Why are they unreliable?
Because they take as a reference the pupillary center and not the real visual axis. This difference in distance is very significant in both distance and near vision.
Because they calculate the Inset value (near convergence point) in a theoretical way, assigning standard values when in reality each person has a different measurement that may even vary between each of their eyes.
Because the client/patient is not in control when it comes to taking the measurements . Can you imagine graduating a person's eyesight and not giving them the final prescription so that they can check how well they see?
The centering devices of the main manufacturers do this...
CENTERED ON THE GEOMETRIC AXIS AND NOT ON THE VISUAL AXIS
The major manufacturers do not establish the position of the visual axis, but rather the position of the geometric center of the pupil with respect to the user’s glasses.
IMPORTANT: The reality is that the visual axis and the geometric axis do not coincide .
The angle between these axes varies from one individual to another and is called Kappa (positional error).
ErgoFocus is a device that has 2 mobile pinhole slits, one vertical and one horizontal, placed in front of the right and left eye that allow us to calculate the exact position of the visual axis of each person by referencing it to the frame for distance and near. This allows us to position the visual axis on the Minkwitz axis of the lens, a zone free of unwanted astigmatism.
The calculation algorithm is based on theorems, so the result of these theorems is a mathematical certainty and is not debatable.
CALCULATION OF A THEORETICAL INSET VALUE
To know the INSET, the extent of convergence of the eyes from far to near, manufacturers resort to a theoretical trigonometric calculation that in reality is not fulfilled.
Manufacturers establish standard parameters (2.4-2.5 mm) and this is the one applied in more than 90% of the cases.
But to take really accurate measurements, more real data is needed than theoretical data, which these systems do not provide and which are the main causes of misfits due to vision problems at near and intermediate viewing distances.
The Solution: Ergofocus System "Precision and flexibility".
- Exact centering on the visual axis.
- Flexibility of choice of manufacturer.
- Minimum investment.
- Backed by scientific evidence.
- Accurate calculation of the INSET value.

Increase your sales of progressive lenses
Scientific studies have confirmed the uniqueness of each eye, and the importance of the visual axis as a reference calculation for lens design.
The distance between the ErgoFocus System and the lens is used to calculate the design at each point on the lens surface, in any direction of gaze.
The location of the fused fixation visual axis ensures high lens customization and optimal design for each eye.
Without this measurement, while the theoretical customization may be optimal, in practice, the design may be inadequate.
Incomparable benefits
This step forward in lens individualization allows for the perfect lens/eye combination.
For an eye with its visual axis localized, regardless of ametropia, the design is five times more accurate than a lens that does not take this into account.
Lens centering is more precise: the position of the visual axes is affected by convergence/phoria, dominant eye, fusional vergence, etc. thus respecting the natural behavior of the wearer and the prismatic prescription, if necessary, especially vertical deviations which affect 7-25% according to different studies.
